Time Flies
When You're Having a Good Life
Hey everybody, here we are again. Can you believe there are only 6 weeks before Christmas? Good grief, time really does fly!
So what’s up this week? Well, I have some bad news and some good news.
We’ll begin with the bad news…
Broken Faith.
It probably comes as no surprise that establishment Democrats, who, for a moment, appeared to have a spine, have now dissolved into a sea of subservience. Eight status quo knuckleheads agreed to support the reopening of the government without any assurance that the Affordable Care Act Tax Credits would be protected. This will, in all likelihood, cause immeasurable damage to those relying on the Affordable Care Act for health coverage. Ultimately, Democratic leader Chuck Schumer’s capitulation, while disappointing, was not surprising.
The thought that Democrats might actually persevere in the fight was a brief but beautiful dream. Sadly, I suspect the Democratic sellouts will soon learn that, like an angry python, the cancer of compromise will eat them whole.
And now for the good stuff…
And, the Greatest of These is Love.
The photo above is of Cathy and me at our wedding. It is mind-boggling to see us at the beginning of our journey. It’s hard to believe I ever looked like that. Cathy was unbelievably gorgeous that day, and remains so to this day.
A couple of days ago, we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. Just let that settle in for a moment. 35 years. And she let me live! Holy crap!
Let me be clear: virtually every good thing that has happened to me in the last 35 years has been either directly or indirectly attributable to Cathy’s love and support. She has helped navigate personal tragedy. She has put up with my flaws and failings. She has supported my numerous adventures, false starts, and reinventions. She has listened to my stories, often exhaustingly repeated. She has endured my jokes, including the painfully bad ones. She has edited my work and life in the best possible way. Language fails me here; it is simply incapable of capturing the full measure of how good she has been to me and how lucky I am to have such a fantastic partner.
She is, in a word, the best.
And They Shall Call Him, Augie.
This is my puppy. If you’ve been reading these posts for a while, you know Augie. He was Cathy’s idea, too. I was a cat person most of my life. But Cathy really wanted this guy, and now he is my personal assistant and my best pal..
Here he is ready to edit this post.
Here is the King on his throne.
And here he is lovin’ life. And whatever he just ate.
A Thank You
I know it is a departure from my usual fare, but some things cannot pass without the attention they deserve.
Thank you for indulging me.
Well, that’s all for now. Until next time, peace and love to you and yours.
Ray
P.S. Hope Springs Eternal
Fun fact: I know that the season just ended, and, not that I’m counting or anything, but there are approximately 111 days until pitchers and catchers report for Spring training 2026. Just sayin’

Excuse auto correct for changing Augie’s name.
Happy anniversary. Hello Angie! Happy to see you Have Doodle Soup live again.
